Lyrics

He’s holding a sand dollar that for the moment’s the thing that he loves

He’ll crush it and toss it just after extracting the five pearly doves

Which also fly briefly and plunge in the deep as a violent discard

The shore where he stands, an expanse of sand scattered with fractured shards of stars

When he throws them away

Brutal erosion, the floor of the ocean is where he hopes they’ll stay

When he throws them away

Betting the tides will recede but not rise, return, recall, repay

He’s having a nightmare, he’s held by a pair of gargantuan hands

Once he controlled them; alas, they no longer obey his commands

They squeeze out the juice then they tear pieces loose ‘til he’s hollow and soft

Each finger has wings and they’re screaming true things as they haul him aloft

Then they throw him away
Late but not never, concerted endeavor to change the day

Then they throw him away
Refuse ejected, a surging collective - return, recall, repay

The fever dream’s real, he’s a weed that’s revealed for the mob to see

He’s mowed and disposed of, a chapter is closed in a tragedy

The mowers look ‘round, there are more to be found when you see what you see

They sharpen their blades and pursue the parade of fools as big as he

When they throw him away

It’s almost as if the setting sun reveals the day

When they throw him away

A once silent throng discovers its song - return, recall, repay
